The Proof Nite Club:still a great place to dance.
Published: Apr 22, 2009
The Proof Nite Club has the answer to the question, Where do go to dance in Denver if you're over 40?
Not that the 20s and 30s crowd doesn't also come to this tried-and-true venue in southest Denver. The deejays play a mix of dance hits from the 1970s, '80s, '90s and now — and there's something to like for almost everyone.
Unlike the high-concept downtown clubs, it's not a hip or happening place where [people go to see and be seen. Adjacent to the Fresh Fish Company in a strip mall, the Proof looks out onto movie theaters and Whole Foods, and you know you're in the suburbs when you park your car in the huge lot full of SUV's and mini-vans.
Attire tends to be casual, a place where mostly nice people come to have a nice time. And the Proof tries to keep it that way, as they have for more than 20 years.
They've done a pretty good job of that, experimenting with ways to please. They claim to be Denver's only video dance club, and you can watch Michael Jackson on the big screens busting out some amazing moves to "Beat It" as you crowd onto the dance floor and try to keep up.
During the 5 to 8 p.m. Happy Hour on Friday, the food and fun are just $3. On the Saturday Night Dance Party, there's no cover from 7 to 9, and everyone gets one free appetizer. On the third Thursday of each month, you can enjoy live music for a $5 cover, as well as a free Happy Hour buffet.
It's just possible that the Proof will keep on doing much the same for another 20 years, as long as people want to keep shaking it and getting down to great music that can never die.
