Patrick's nightclub: a great place for ... everything!

At Patrick's, probably Aurora's best nightclub, there's something doing every night of the week. Long-appreciated as a draw for national and local music talent, Patrick's is also a great place to enjoy everything from poker and pool to karaoke.

The bands that perform on Thursday, Friday and Saturday play a wide range of music: rock, funk, old school and covers — along with jazz, blues, R&B and soul. Much of it is danceable and almost all of it is good.

The small dance floor off to the side of the stage gets crowded pretty quickly. Try to avoid shaking it right in front of speakers, if you don't want your ears to start burning.

Patrick's keeps making big efforts to please its patrons, and plans to try out karaoke.  Check that out if you want to pretend you're Gloria Gaynor belting out "I Will Survive" or whatever song you've practiced.

On Monday and Tuesday, you can play in pool or poker tournaments, with gift certificates as prizes. Sundays are Service Industry Night.  Bring your check stubs for free pool and $3 You-Call-Its.

Serious tipplers can take advantage Sammy Saturdays, with $3 pints of Sam Adams on sale all day long. Happy Hour — voted the best in Denver —  goes on from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and from 9 p.m.-11p.m. on Sunday.

If you want to keep the alcohol from going to your head too quickly, you'll find plenty to eat: fresh potato chips for only 75 cents, and an array of appetizers from Aztec quesadillas to green chile to potato skins for about $7.

More substantial fare isn't much more expensive, with burgers, big burritos and sandwiches costing around $7, and steak or chicken fajitas at about $11.

You'll probably feel most comfortable here dressing casually to blend in with Patrick's diverse crowd. Outside in the strip-mall parking lot, you'll see everything from pick-ups to Porsches. Inside you'll find a lot of happy, unpretentious people just trying to have a good time — and doing exactly that.
