Flagstaff Charter Academy Reviews

My two children attend since 2006-2007 and the caliber of knowledge equals that of a private school (both children attended private school prior to this charter). the number of after school programs is exemplary and the art and music programs are unequaled in the area (i.e. the music teacher is designing the National music curriculum for Core Knowledge.

My 2 children attend Flagstaff and while not a founding family, we have attended Flagstaff since it's inception 3 years ago. We could not be more pleased with the curriculum, the teachers, the leadership and parent involvement in this school.

The core knowledge curriculum that Flagstaff follows is fantastic! The kids get a very well-rounded education which includes extras like music, art history, science (with lab), and PE (1-2 times a week). The specials teachers are great with the kids. I am amazed at what my child is learning in history and science in just the first grade. I am impressed at the level of parent involvement. The saying goes, 'It takes a village...' and I believe the parents involvement creates a safe environment that enhances the learning and growth of all students. There will always be a few who dissent, but I have never been discouraged or frustrated by the parent involvement - it's actually quite the contrary!

Note that Flagstaff is a K-8 school as of 2007-2008. We have two sons at Flagstaff in third and sixth grade. Both are accelling with the curriculum, and teaching style. It is stricter than where we came from and way richer in content. My sons take French and Spanish, the music teacher is phenomenal, teaches composition and world music, and the history books are so interesting, we read them as a family. The facility is pretty crowded, an office park in Longmont. Middle school curriculum at sixth grade is amazing, current events, science lab, world history , French, math and literature that is very advanced. So much better than the schoool we could walk to. I'd give the curriculum a 10. The school is disorganized in parent communication is the one negative. Choir, Band Chess Club, Robotics and sports are available after school.

The teachers and principal are wonderful, however, the parents are overly involved and it is impossible to keep anything private.

While the curriculum at Flagstaff is fabulous, do NOT send your special needs child to this school. They are unsupportive and lack an infrastructure to help these kids.
