Lakewood High School Reviews

Lakewood High School is excellent for all students. You have a caring Principal who emphasis is on family and learning and some fun. He cares, the teachers care and the students care.

Education becomes increasingly challenging preceding freshman year in the IB program. Overall, students such as myself are able to expand our knowledge exponentially throughout our years at Lakewood. Go Tigers! P.S. CC and Track rule!

Great school. I'm a member of the International Baccalaureate Program and I love it. Everybody is great friends, no matter who else your friends are. Theres also amazing music and theater programs, and a few good sports such as Tennis and Soccer. It's a great environment to learn in because everybody challenges each other to do well. I love it.

Greatest soccer coach in the state of Colorado in Mr. Peter Mehlbach. Academics are outstanding. Extra-Curriculars are fanstastic and the students are welcoming and very open minded. The new building is state of the art and the technology is high-end technology. I would recommend Lakewood High School students who are driven in life and are ambitious. Lakewood High School will help you excel in any area you desire.

Outstanding school - the kids LOVE it, the administration loves teaching and being there. All are directed to the success of the students and providing a safe 'cool' learning environment - it is a tolerant, non-cliquish environment where it is more than acceptable to want to be smart and make the most of yourself.

There are numerous AP and IB classes available to most if not all students at Lakewood. There are plenty of sports oppertunities, as well as a great soccer coach in Mr. Melbach. The parent involvement is relatively low, but that is because the kids can take care of it themselves.

Lakewood was a great school when I attended it.

The IB program is very strong and many of Lakewood's students are involved in the extracurriculars. Music is a particularly robust area of student interest, with hundreds of students involved in both vocal and instrumental programs. IB teachers are dedicated and effective, in addition to being encouraging and inspirational to students with special capabilities. My impression is that the advanced course selection outside of the IB program is weak, since most gifted students opt for the rigor of IB. However, for those students who do choose IB, the experience is well worth the time and effort; college admissions rates for IB students are very high.

I attended this school from 2000 to 2004 and I can honestly say thats its a great learning enviroment. The staff there are the best I have ever had and they really seem to do whatever they can to help out the students, whether it be with school or social problems. I highly reccomend this school to any one who truly wants to learn, be accepted and treated fairly.

The academic programs are fantastic there are so many options of very different classes. There is a variety of diffuculties between the IB program and the AP program and standard classes. Our school is like a family, mostly friends, no intense conflict friendly teachers and school spirit. There are plenty of opportunities for students to join any extracirricular activity. No matter who you are, there is always something you can relate to, whether it be guitar club, skate club, choir, band, art club, chess club, bowling club, football, basketball, vollyball, track etc. There is a large amount of parent support, which is probably why our school is like a family, you can tell the parents care about their kids, and want to be there for their education. It's a great place to be.

I am currently a first year college student, having graduated from Lakewood High School in May 2004. Because of the education I received in the IB program at Lakewood, I started college as a sophomore, and will graduate in 2007. Lakewood was not my home school, but making the choice to attend was the best decision I have ever made. The IB program in particular is excellent, especially because the teachers are caring and knowledgeable. None of my professors at university have even come close to the dedication and passion displayed by my teachers at Lakewood. The social atmosphere is great, truly embodying the somewhat cliche school motto 'We are family.' Ron Castagna is the greatest principal a high school student could hope for, caring genuinely for the arts programs and the students themselves. Everything about Lakewood is fantastic, and I look back on my high school years with fondness.

Attending Lakewood High School was the best decision I could have made for myself. The IB Program at Lakewood has proven to be a better college education than college itself. Ron Castagna is the most caring and competent principal at any Jeffco school, and very few of my university professors have come close to the standards my high school teachers set for themselves.

I'm a student at Lakewood High School and I think it's a great school. They offer so many different classes and activites to particpate in.

I attend LHS as a sophomore. I'm currently in the IB program there. When I came to Lakewood, I knew no one. All of a sudden, I came to this new school, having no friends, and by the end of the first day of school, I met terrific people who were becoming my friends. Today as a sophomore I am thrilled that I came to Lakewood because it doesn't fit stereotype. There are no cliques, no gangs, nothing that makes anyone feel excluded, which I appreciate. Lakewood has a great atmosphere with wonderful teachers that are willing and genuinely concerned about the welfare of the students there!

My son was not in the IB program at Lakewood but because of the school's policies of 1) having IB teachers also teach regular classes, and 2) permtting students to take AP classes without qualifications or testing, he found a level of challenge that was perfect for him.

I graduated from LHS with an International Baccalaureate Diploma two years ago and I am extremely thankful for the high quality education that I recieved. Teachers, faculty, parents, and coaches are extremely involved and committed to the development and growth of LHS students. As an IB student I was constantly challenged and encouraged to formulate my own arguments and pursue intellectual excellence. I entered college with sophomore academic standing, and I am increasingly aware of the valuable international academic focus that the LHS faculty offers. Thanks to the intellectual atmosphere the IB program provided, my understanding and analysis of college level material began at Lakewood High School! All in all, my academic and extracurricular experiences at LHS were constistently positive, safe, welcoming, intellectually challenging, and diverse.

Although the IB program is why my child came to LHS, we have found the school a supportive and welcoming community. We appreciate the 'private school' level of teacher enthusiasm and quality, as well as the challenges to my child which are inherent in the curriculum itself.

Lakewood High School rocks. The IB program is an exellent program! Not only does it prepare you for college but, there is also the possibility of starting high school as a sophmore. Not only that but there are many excellent teachers, a great atmosphere, and many afterschool oppurtunitys.

The International Baccalaureate program at Lakewood High School is outstanding! The teachers and staff are amazingly dedicated. The principal creates a friendly yet respectful atmosphere in the school. The instrumental music program is top-notch. Before coming to Lakewood, my daughters were never challenged. Now they work hard, learn a lot, and love every bit it.
