Pitt-Waller K-8 School Reviews

I would not recommend this school to anyone. My son is in 4th grade and has attended this school since 1st grade. Two of the 4 teachers he's had were pretty good, the other two completely just didn't get it. There is absolutely no individualized teaching/learning at this school except for Special Ed and English Language Learners; they believe in the one size fits all model. Trying to communicate with the administration is like pulling teeth. The principal is present and very visible but that doesn't do anything for student/teacher performance as reflected in their test scores and SPF rating by the district. They do offer a lot of extra-curricular activities which is good. We tried to stick it out until middle school but this will definitely be our last year.

I am very happy with this school. My daughter is in third grade and loves it. All of the teachers are involved and the principal is great and always present. We have a 14 yr old son and have had several horrible experiences with other DPS.

My child attends Waller K-8 School and is having a great time with friends and also getting the help he needs in his studies. In addition, I find that Waller has plenty of after school activities like music, drama, sports, clubs, and helpful tutuoring programs. I have been very satisfied with the quality instruction of the teachers and am proud to be a Bison parent!!!

My daughter is in 5th grade and has been going to FPW for 2 years. She has been to a better public school, and she has been a worse charter school. Even though she is a struggling reader, she is not in any special reading program. She gets reports sent home saying she needs to work on specific areas of reading, but I have never seen any individualized instruction to meet her needs. Her teacher last year was wonderful and my daughter became a better reader. The principal is always welcoming and will take time for his parents. I would suggest going somewhere else if you have a high-needs child or are an over-achieving kind of parent. It is a new school and they are still getting it together. Even after all my complaining, I hope she gets to go back next year!!

I'm a parent of a 6th grader attending Florida Pitt Waller and I'm very disapointed in the teching techinques. No after classes programs, you have to pay to attend ptsa meetings. Very little comunication school-parent. Office personal can not even spell correctly. Below academic standards. No literacy programs. There are no challenges for studentes, if they want to study, fine, if they don't want to study fine too. You contact teachers and your kid is always doing fine, sometimes they don't even eamil you back. Parent-Teacher conferences are ONLY for problem kids and you are lucky if you get a report card from all the teachers.

I am new to teaching at Florida Pitt-Waller and I must say that already during in-services I was prepared for the year ahead in an organized, energetic, and positive manner by the new principal and assistant principal. They really have their vision for the school together! I look forward to my experience teaching Waller students!

My daughter attended FPW for 7th-8th grade. Overall I found it a very disappointing experience. There's high teacher absenteeism and there've been 3 principals in 2 years. There's a definite difference in how the elementary age students are treated vs. middle school. This is evident in the difference is uniform dress b/t elementary vs. middle. The students also seem to watch lots of movies during regular class hours. These are not class or subject related movies but often whatever is recently out on DVD. For a school with low to average CSAP scores, this doesn't seem to be the way to improve. Like I mentioned in the beginning, very disappointing experience. So much so that we've moved to another district.

My daughter adores her teacher at FPW. She loves going to school every day and really seems to be learning a lot. I appreciate the dedicated, hard working staff.

This school is wonderful! There is always open communication between the staff and parents. Whenever there is a problem it is quickly resolved. My son loves his teacher and enjoys going to school.

My son loves school thanks to the dedicated teachers and staff at FPW. They have challenged and encouraged him to be the best he can be.

For a brand new school this year. I feel that my daughter has gotten a very good education. She has a wonderful teacher that really knows her students well and gives them challenging work. As well as a great atmosphere to work in. The teachers were allowed to choose what they wanted in the school before it opened from the desks, to the curriculum. As for the principal that was some what of a disappointment when the new principal left at Christmas break then his vice followed behind him. So for the rest of the school year we have a new interim principal. Can't remember her name but comes to the school with very high regards. As for the parent involvement I think they are still building on on that. They just got the PTA finally together so for a brand new school I think it is coming along well.
